More Three Weeks to the Suit

Today, considering "the suit," I was planning to step out of my comfort zone and ride my bike to work off those pesky famous five pounds. When I walked into the garage to get my bike I saw a horrific mess. I thought,"a little clean up prior to my bike ride?" I had to decide. Not a difficult question for me. Did I mention that I am intimidated by the bike, scared of the bike, terrified of the bike? I know I need to dominate the bike, but the garage clean up was necessary and it won!

I removed all the junk from the garage and took it to the front yard for trash pick up. That little clean up lasted several hours. Though I found many memories (that I treasure), I also found and a lot of stuff that should have remained with their owners (my children), not in my storage. But that's another story and okay with me.

Boxes are now organized and labeled. Each of my offspring may pick up their belongings and remove them from my garage at their earliest convenience.

My quest for "the suit" will continue.  Perhaps, tomorrow I will ride the bike…maybe!

Days 5-9: Three Weeks to the Suit

My make-over took me a different direction these last few days. I took some time for celebration and enjoyment. They are both invaluable tools in redirecting one's karma. Diet and exercise are essential as we all know, and we put effort in achieving these goals. But what about our souls? Too often we don't get enough time to laugh, love, and celebrate.

On Friday, we were fortunate to get to enjoy a celebration for our daughter Callie. She has been teaching and working hard to earn her Texas teaching certificate through a state program. Callie completed her efforts and, as a family we had the opportunity to celebrate together. One of our favorite places is Kobe Steaks. We convened to honor Callie's acheivement. Because she comes from a long line of educators, this was an extra special and memorable moment for us. Thank you Memo and Nana for getting started down that road!

Secondly, I spent a couple of days relaxing with my daughter Meg. We spent "Sunday, Funday" enjoying the ambience of Austin. We started with brunch downtown, then worked our way through the city with shopping, wine, tapas, and visiting with friends. The atmosphere of Austin is one of harmony and peace in an eccentric environment. Good for the soul.

I realize that none of this did anything to assure the loss of the "famous five," but doggone it, my spirits are soaring! Who knows what will happen with the suit?

Day 4: Three Weeks to the Suit

Today, Day 4 of my do-it yourself three week make-over, I had my hair cut and highlighted. There's something about a brand new hairdo that makes you feel all tingly inside. Especially if they get it right. I actually walked out of Toni and Guy at Galleria with a smile on my face and a lilt in my step. So, today's message is brief. Sometimes it's about the outfit, sometimes it's about the shoes and then sometimes it's just about great cut, color and bangs. But the best is, Bill says says my new "do" makes me look ten years younger and he never comments on hair!

Day 3: Three Weeks to the Suit

While I was out running last night under the big Texas sky, I had some revelations. First, life is good even though sometimes we may think it isn't. And second, a quote I once heard. "Women are Angels…And when someone breaks our wings, we simply continue to fly…Usually on a broomstick. We are flexible like that." Both of these thoughts made perfect sense considering my situation. Last night, these thoughts seemed momentous.

So this morning, those thoughts still in mind brought me back to the "suit". Is it that important? Other things have happened in my life lately that make me feel perplexed and insignificant. My career is gone per my choice. I have a whole new life with a different set of responsibilities. Do I need to continue the pursuit of the suit? I decided to take today off from running. It seemed that, after 3 days in a row, I needed a break from exercise. All I actually wanted to do tonight was sit down with a glass of wine and watch TV.

However, we don't always get what we want. When I came home from errands and carpool, I learned the suit had won. What I found when I walked in the front door sent me right back out again ready to pound the pavement (after the clean-up). Ahh, the suit and the dogs!

Day Two: Three Weeks to the Suit

At this point, I must digress a bit, about a twenty something year digression.

I left Long Beach, Mississippi as an in shape mother of four young children. I was the mom that when people saw us out and about asked, "Are they all yours?" Life rocked along famously for said children and me (and my figure). Then I hit 40! Not only did that joyful event transpire, but I was also invited to go back to TEACHING! Need I say more about what happened to my waistline and my wardrobe.

Let's move ahead 17 years. On March 5th, I resigned my position as a teacher for personal reasons. A few days later I took inventory. What I found was a shortdumpy school marm with several pair of polyester pants and "smock" shirts. I was hiding myself under that lovely wardrobe. Horrified, I decided it was time to do something to fix this problem. So my journey began.

As I have been at this venture for two months now, I find myself in much better shape (the outfits given to charity--if they even want them) and a much better place. But, I still have that "famous five" pounds that need to go in order to wear the pink suit from years ago! Hence, Day Two: Three Weeks to the Suit continues.

Check in tomorrow for further details.
